I strive every day to absorb new information and listen to my clients’ needs, even if it is a new therapy that I have never heard of. I believe that therapists need to be person-centred without the hierarchy of patient and client. I am here to advocate and be part of the journey of a client’s learning processes even if it is a difficult journey.

Helping clients gain self-awareness and get unstuck is essential to one’s growth and desired outcome. I utilize various strategies and techniques to aid in this counselling process. As I actively listen to my client’s concerns, thoughts, and feelings, a safe and non-judgmental space is created whereby they can freely express themselves. Through empathy, validating their experiences, and reflecting back their emotions and key points, clients feel understood. I use reflective questions that encourage clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviour. This helps promote introspection and self-reflection. In sharing with clients the nature of human behaviour, emotions, and common patterns of thinking, it also helps them understand how their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours may be contributing to their current situation. In addition, while normalizing and validating emotions, patterns and triggers are identified, core beliefs and values are explored, and through some mindfulness, self-reflective exercises and techniques, their sense of self, self-awareness and introspection are further developed.
Goal setting, homework, and practice are equally relevant and reinforce self-awareness. It also encourages new perspectives and supports clients in applying strategies learned in counselling to real-life situations, thereby gradually becoming unstuck in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Every client is unique, and the approach is tailored to individual needs, including those of couples and families, to attain the best results.

No one can eliminate pain from life. But suffering can be diminished and the capacity for happiness can be increased.
Whether it is ordinary unhappiness, or significant trauma, or a deep loss, or a biologically based brain problem, you deserve a chance to heal and grow. And if you are one of those people who find it very hard to believe that you deserve something good, then you deserve to figure out how that came to be – because no one is born feeling like they don’t deserve love or happiness.
I don’t believe that one can treat the body or brain without attending to the mind, and spirit and soul, as well as the community and culture one carries inside or encounters outside. If your suffering requires medication then it is very important to combine this with help through psychotherapy.

I’m Simren, a Registered Social Worker Therapist. I have a wide range of experience working in the field, primarily with children and families, and have done therapy with clients as young as 5 years old. I’ve had clients from many different cultural backgrounds, and with a variety of mental and behavioral presentations, including Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I am an easygoing and compassionate person and believe good therapy can only occur after first establishing a positive therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and respect. I draw from various modalities and like to personalize therapy for a client based on their needs and presenting issues. Some modalities I draw from include Person-centered therapy, Attachment-based therapy, Trauma-focused CBT, Psychodynamic theory, and Play Therapy.
I personally feel that almost all of us can benefit from therapy; we are all unique individuals with both strengths and vulnerabilities, with certain vulnerabilities making it harder for some of us to adjust or function optimally in modern day society, which can often be overwhelming and adverse. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space for you to share and discuss whatever you wish to, and then for us to strive towards creating positive change in your life.

If it was easy to change, therapy wouldn’t exist. Together we will face the puzzles, fears and tough spots that make it hard to change, even when you want to.
I work with young and mid-age adults who are ready for things to get better, but don’t know where to start, or can’t manage to make the desired moves.
You have everything you need inside you to meet the challenges of your life. Working together we can look at what’s real to you, what’s under your control, and what is your next step. We can go deep, or just get you through a rough patch.
